Privacy policy

What we collect

When you agree to it, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used in aggregate — which articles people read, roughly where visits come from (an approximate location derived from IP, which we do not store), the kind of device and browser in use, and the page or search that referred you. You do not create an account here, and we do not ask for your name, email, or any other detail that identifies you personally in order to read.

Consent comes first

We run Google Consent Mode v2, and its defaults are set to denied. That means analytics and advertising storage stay switched off — no analytics cookies are written and no measurement happens — until you accept through the cookie banner.

Note: if you decline, or simply never respond to the banner, the denied default holds and analytics stays inactive for your visit.

Cookies and local storage

Your answer to the banner is remembered in your own browser under a cookie-consent value kept in local storage, so we do not have to ask again on every page. If you accept, Google Analytics then sets its own cookies to measure usage. We do not use these signals to follow you around the web.

How the data is used

Aggregate analytics tells us which topics are worth expanding, where pages are confusing or slow, and whether a change helped. That is the whole purpose. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not build advertising profiles from your behavior on this site.

Google as a third party

Analytics is provided by Google, which processes the measurement data on our behalf and handles it under its own privacy terms. Once information reaches Google it is also governed by Google's policies, which sit outside our control.

Your choices

You stay in charge of what happens on your side. You can decline analytics at the banner and browse with measurement off, opt out at any time, and ask us about the limited data associated with your visits or request that we look into deleting it. To reset your choice and be asked again, clear this site's stored data in your browser — or remove the cookie-consent entry — and reload the page. Your browser's own privacy controls and Google's analytics opt-out add further ways to limit collection.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and certainly not from a child under 13. If you believe a minor has provided information through the site, please write to us and we will remove what we can.

How long data is kept

Aggregate analytics is retained only as long as it is useful for understanding trends, after which Google's standard retention windows apply. The consent value lives in your browser until you or your browser clears it, and it never reaches our servers.

Security

The site is served over encrypted connections, and because we deliberately hold very little, there is very little to expose. No method of transmission or storage is ever perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection — but keeping our data footprint small is itself part of how we protect you.

Changes to this policy

As the site grows or the tools behind it change, we may revise this page. When we do, the updated version replaces the old one here, and continuing to use the site afterward means the current version applies to you.
